Sensing and Control Methods for Large Satellite Formations

Status: Completed project, June 2003 -- December 2006
Type: New Sensor Concepts

New sensor concepts are developed using existing radionavigation technologies such as GPS receivers and transponders for Earth orbit and beyond.

The task investigates applications where the size (number of satellites)and spacing (separation distance) of the formation can be large.  Additional applications are considered in Highly Elliptical Orbits and orbits beyond Earth where GPS systems are not available.
